Greendoc: Dominion

Greendoc: Dominion

On the 4th of October it’s World Animal Day, and as an ode to our four-legged friends we would like to take a moment to collectively reflect on the way in which we, as a society, interact with animals. If we want to keep enjoying our beautiful planet Earth in the coming decades, our consumption patterns and food systems will have to face some drastic changes. To create awareness on this topic, we’re organizing the Amsterdam premiere of the  Australian documentary Dominion (2018).  For Greendoc this will also be the premiere for the first documentary screening in De Ceuvel’s new venue: The Gallery (behind Metabolic Lab)!
Please note, despite the cutesy sounding World Animal Day, reality is that the relationship between man and animal is not always the prettiest. Dominion contains some shocking images and if you want to leave at any point that’s fine. For everyone who makes it to the end of the film and participates in the Q&A, there will be a small present, more on which later!
On this (freely accessible) evening you are welcome to make a donation. All proceeds will be forwarded to Aussie Farms, a charity founded by the makers of Dominion. The money raised from this event will support their ongoing commitment to providing free and accessible information for consumers like us, so that we can make better informed decisions.

About De Ceuvel
De Ceuvel is a sustainability hub with a Café-Restaurant with an almost exclusively vegetarian menu (though since very recently the kitchen serves wild goose meat that would have been thrown away otherwise). On World Animal Day, the menu will be almost entirely plant-based.

About Dominion
The makers of Dominion used drones, hidden and handheld cameras to expose the dark underbelly of modern animal agriculture, questioning the morality and validity of humankind’s dominion over the animal kingdom. While mainly focusing on animals used for food, it also explores other ways animals are exploited and abused by humans, including clothing, entertainment and cosmetic research.
