In 2019, Amber also launched the sustainable system design game DNA, which can be booked via Tours.

What is built serves the design and functioning of living spaces (or biotopes) that are made possible within and outside the built structure. Architecture is thus the result of the desired spaces and conditions inside and outside, as well as the relationships between them.

As a designer for people, spatial possibilities always exceed what the client initially envisions. The core of the design challenge is found through an analysis of the client’s wishes and the unique opportunities and qualities of the project and location.

As a designer for animals and plants, the goal is to build or strengthen biotopes, adding regenerative value. By consciously involving non-human life as a fictional client, the often vague concept of sustainability gains tangible meaning. This includes creating (spatial) conditions within the design, as well as making material choices and continuously seeking the best options. Since the impact of building materials on the landscape, environment, and health is taken into account, local, circular, and naturally compostable materials offer an interesting alternative.

Amber also teaches at the KABK (Royal Academy of Art) in The Hague.

How do you see the future of De Ceuvel?

“I hope that the Zoöp status will inspire a unique transformation process, that De Ceuvel will remain a green oasis, and will become even more of a meeting place where all visitors feel at home—including our non-human residents and guests.”
