Andrei manages the greenhouse and the aquaponics system of Metabolic in the cleantech playground De Ceuvel. With the help of aquaculture and hydroponics, Andrei is exploring the potential symbiosis between plants and fish to provide healthy food without the use of pesticides or chemicals.
Growing food has always been a central part of his life, and he believes that growing healthy products is essential for a healthy life and well-being. Andrei grew up in Romania and moved to Western Europe to study tourism. He noticed that there were few fresh and healthy products available and missed the flavors of local food from his home country.
Since joining Metabolic, Andrei has embarked on a journey of trial and error – constantly developing the aquaponics greenhouse to inspire the spread of commercially viable aquaponics food production systems.

Students learn CPR through the game, and teachers coordinate the training. The game allows teachers to train the students without being instructors themselves. Within a lesson hour, students practice on CPR mannequins and earn their certification.

Amber Architecture designs spaces, ranging from housing to public spaces. We make spatial strategies, interior design and architecture. We discover the heart of an assignment and celebrate the qualities of a location. That is how we get to the essence.
In 2019, Amber also launched the sustainable system design game DNA, which can be booked via Tours.
What is built serves the design and functioning of living spaces (or biotopes) that are made possible within and outside the built structure. Architecture is thus the result of the desired spaces and conditions inside and outside, as well as the relationships between them.
As a designer for people, spatial possibilities always exceed what the client initially envisions. The core of the design challenge is found through an analysis of the client’s wishes and the unique opportunities and qualities of the project and location.
As a designer for animals and plants, the goal is to build or strengthen biotopes, adding regenerative value. By consciously involving non-human life as a fictional client, the often vague concept of sustainability gains tangible meaning. This includes creating (spatial) conditions within the design, as well as making material choices and continuously seeking the best options. Since the impact of building materials on the landscape, environment, and health is taken into account, local, circular, and naturally compostable materials offer an interesting alternative.
Amber also teaches at the KABK (Royal Academy of Art) in The Hague.

How do you see the future of De Ceuvel?
"I hope that the Zoöp status will inspire a unique transformation process, that De Ceuvel will remain a green oasis, and will become even more of a meeting place where all visitors feel at home—including our non-human residents and guests."
I create projects that challenge the status quo in a fun and refreshing way, inviting people to question certain systems without taking a moralising stand in the matter.
My work focuses on fashion, social entrepreneurship, social inclusivity, and promoting a healthy self-image in a world where everyone seems perfect.
How do you make a difference?
"By creating open and positive projects that invite people to reconsider current systems and behaviors."
Where can I call you?
“For the development and execution of creative social and sustainable projects, connecting with a broad network of like-minded people, and help in developing a more social, sustainable, and inclusive business strategy.”
Why do you find De Ceuvel a nice place?
"De Ceuvel breathes 'out of the box' thinking. It challenges the status quo in everything it does, making it an incredibly inspiring place to be."
What is your favorite place?
"I love the desk on our boat by the window. From about 12 pm until sunset, it bathes in sunlight, allowing you to enjoy the warmth of the sun, even when it’s cold outside. And when there's a storm, you see the powerful impact of the wind and rain while you sit safely behind the window on our warm and cozy boat."

Kabaalmakers creates documentaries for young people, together with young people. We offer various workshops in which we search for stories that resonate with children and teenagers, while also teaching them the basics of filmmaking. This can include journalism, documentary, stop-motion, animation, and fiction.
I’m specialized as a spatial and graphic designer and work on exhibit design projects as well as on interoir and graphic design projects. From concept to elaboration. My role as a designer is to look at a variety of issues from a different perspective. I work independently, but also as a team member together with other professionals.
But also to the development of educational programmes, plan visions or future visualisations, brainstorms or atmospheric impressions.
What does your company do with sustainability?
As a designer, I try to work more and more circularly: what can we reuse from other exhibitions? And if we make something: should it be physical? Of what material? And what happens to it afterwards?
Since when have you been involved with the Ceuvel?
I have been a tenant from the very first hour, together with Cristel from LOTS OF we insulated our boat ourselves and built the interior.
To what extent does the Ceuvel strengthen your business?
It's a creative and inspiring place that matters. That's also what I want to stand for in my own work. My clients appreciate de Ceuvel.

At Superuse Studios we believe we can make a difference. We think ingenious, beautiful and functional architectural and social design solutions can be created using existing resources, materials and systems. Everything is already there, we just have to see it and utilize it. In this way we can transform to a sustainable society and limit the impact of architecture and design. To make optimal use of locally sourced 'waste' in new design solutions is what we call SUPERUSE. Functionality, sustainability and aesthetics are our guiding principles.
How does Superuse makes the difference?
Jos de Krieger: “Years of experience in the field of research gives us an edge compared to other designers in this field, we know the pitfalls and how to avoid them.”
What can I call you for?
“All questions related to reuse of materials, circular economy and design questions ranging from product to building scale.”
Why does the company fit here?
“If I welcome a client at the Ceuvel I can show and explain all aspects of our firm by walking around on the boardwalk.”
What is your favourite spot at the Ceuvel?

Tessa brings people and ideas together. With a true go-getter mentality and conceptual thinking ability, she works on various creative productions. As a program maker, she develops public programs with local communities that are innovative and inspiring.

Anke Wijnja (1972) is a landscape designer and Nature Connector. Her work focuses on the experience of nature, whether it concerns a natural playground, a garden for people with Alzheimers or a Citysafari in which you go and search for (animal) tracks in the city. At the Ceuvel, she is responsible for everything related to the Purifying Park: from the application of Phytoremediation to the enthusiasm of the Park volunteers.
How do you/your company make a difference?
I take people outdoors in my work. Whether it's through Mindfulness, outdoor coaching, or workshops, I help them get moving again, so that everything inside can shift as well. I open their senses, give them a new perspective, and bring more awareness to the present moment. Nature is my ally in this process, both as a stimulating and inspiring environment and as a mirror of what life truly is. You don't have to go far – nature is closer than you think.
What can people call you for?
For support in finding your own strength. For experiencing the present moment. And for nature-based experiences, such as Bushcraft in the Vinex district.
Why do you feel at home at De Ceuvel?
To me, De Ceuvel represents daring to look at the world differently. At the relationship between us and others, and us and the environment. How we might approach things differently than they’ve always been done. That inspires me and my participants in their search for their own strength and actions.
Your favorite place at De Ceuvel

Urban Interior Design is a design studio with a cooperative workshop in the heart of De Ceuvel in Amsterdam Noord. We collaborate with our community in this temporary village of creativity, where we explore new ways to use materials and integrate them into various designs.
From our former boat, now creative haven, we run a variety of projects and actively support the community with constructive and aesthetic design support for the village of boats. The studio is open for use by other initiatives and is often turned into a live music stage during our divers season programming at the Ceuvel.
Why do you feel at home at the Ceuvel?
From an intimate involvement as part of the first group of builders and planners who created the Ceuvel. All the wonderful developments past and present regarding this place make it exciting to be part of and make you wonder where it will lead.

The work of the greenhouse focuses on implementing simple and effective cultivation methods that anyone, anywhere, can easily replicate. Our emphasis is on DIY practices, recycling materials and nutrients, and avoiding chemicals and toxic pesticides to produce healthy food.
Nature serves as inspiration; in the heart of the city, various healthy crops are grown. Through this initiative, we invite people to learn, explore, and be motivated to grow their own food.
What does your company do for sustainability?
The project’s activities touch on all aspects of sustainability: energy conservation, water conservation, space efficiency, and circularity as the core of the design. We use local materials, including for the production of plant nutrients. Every action is taken with these factors in mind.
How does the Ceuvel strengthen your business?
Since the polluted soil is a challenge, different techniques are implemented on-site to counteract this issue. These techniques complement the greenhouse’s approach.
How does your business strengthen the Ceuvel?
The greenhouse is the physical representation of circularity. It provides a solution for growing food in these conditions and creates the feeling of an oasis in the middle of the city.
How do you see the future of the Ceuvel?
I envision the Ceuvel becoming an integral part of the city's future planning. As Noord expands and grows, I see the Ceuvel as a future oasis within the urban landscape, a reminder of how things once were—a place for people to come together and learn.
We are a team of creatives, designers and producers who work on the intersection of concept development and urbanism. Our strength is based on creativity, the ability to ‘read’ the city and our collaborative mindset.
With a can-do attitude, we turn ideas into reality. Always in collaboration. And with the various users of the city in mind.
What does your company do with sustainability?
The aim of We The City is to show the city as a shared canvas that can be coloured by all of us together. The focus is on positive (social) impact through creativity and collaboration.
To what extent does the Ceuvel enhance your business?
The green environment provides my sanity, as does the excellent collection of beautiful, inspiring idealists who work here.
How do you envision the future of the Ceuvel?
A combination of Hundertwasser (the straight line is wicked), Holzmarkt 28, Sexyland World and Salt (Oslo) with a strong base of De Ceuvel itself, of course.
To what extent does your company strengthen De Ceuvel?
I have organised several events and created new concepts with people I met at De Ceuvel. These concepts in themselves help strengthen De Ceuvel's goals outside De Ceuvel. For example, together with Remco Moen (Frank Lee, formerly Heeey), I set up the Future Brigade, a brainstorming concept from which several concepts such as NK Tegelwippen emerged.
