On Saturday, October 10, Senegalese singer Adama Cissokho will give a singing workshop at Metabolic Lab, after which the afternoon will be festively concluded with a special concert by Adama together with Gambian kora player Lamin Kuyateh.
Adama and Lamin will take you into the world of the griots; through song and kora, they weave centuries-old West African Mande music together with the here and now. You are warmly welcome — come and enjoy!

As a Jalimousso (‘griot’), Adama specializes in praise singing and passing down stories and songs, a tradition that is passed down from generation to generation within these families and dates back to the great Mali Empire of the 13th century. As a descendant of a renowned musical family of kora players, she was raised from an early age to sing blessings of eternal marital happiness to newlyweds, wish children a successful life at naming ceremonies, and bring joy to the community with her phenomenal voice, from neighborhood celebrations to international festival stages. Adama is a warm and inspiring teacher. Her love for the tradition she comes from is tangible and infectious. During the singing workshop, Adama will teach us songs from the Mande tradition using the centuries-old technique of ‘singing along’. She is happy to share stories about local traditions, everyday life, and the background of the songs she sings.
